Chief Master Sergeant Delmar J. Schaefers is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 176th Wing, Joint Base Elmendorf- Richardson, Alaska. He serves as the senior enlisted leader advising on the recruiting, retention, and training of more than 1,150 Air Guard enlisted members ensuring operations of C-17 Globemaster III, HH-60G Pave Hawk, and HC-130J Combat King II aircraft, as well as Guardian Angel and Air Warning weapons systems, plus a full array of agile combat support capability for in- state and worldwide deployment. The unit maintains a constant watch and commitment for Pacific Air Forces, Air Combat Command, United States Northern Command, United States Transportation Command, and Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Region. 

Chief Schaefers joined the South Dakota Army National Guard in May 1980 and served as a drill status guardsman with them until June 1982. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and upon completing Air Force Basic Military Training, he remained in Texas for the Telephone Central Office Switching Equipment Course. His first duty assignment was as a Central Office Apprentice and Technician with the 1930th Communications Squadron, Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. After almost 10 years of service with the Air Force, CMSgt Schaefers elected to stay in Alaska and join the Alaska Air National Guard to work in various base communication positions to include telephone repair and installation; communication cable installation and maintenance; radio maintenance; and supervisory positions. Prior to assuming his current position, he served as the Chief Enlisted Manager of the 176th Communication Flight, 176th Wing, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.
