Air guardsmen of the 176 Wing took time aside for a Safety Day here May 23, discussing safety problems and solutions to ensure mission success.

The 176 Wing Safety Day was a part of an Air National Guard directive to brief guardsmen on current trends, such as texting and driving and ways to avoid the human factors of accidents during daily activities and trips.

"These briefings are to motivate our guardsmen to assess their risks on and off duty so they and their families come back to us safely," said Lt. Col. Rich Adams, the safety officer of the 176 Wing.

Other units across base also held a Safety Day in May since it is both the beginning of summer and summertime activities in Alaska.
