Kevin McElhoes, a C-17 crew chief with the 176th Wing's 249th Airlift Squadron, guides a Mississippi Air National Guard C-17 onto the flightline at Kulis Air National Guard Base, Alaska on Sept. 17, 2008. The C-17 Globemaster III carried two PaveHawk helicopters and their crews from the wing's 210th Rescue Squadron; and a group of pararescuers from the wing's 212th Rescue Squadron. The wing members deployed to the Gulf Coast region Sept. 1 to perform search-and-rescue operations in the aftermath of hurricanes Gustav and Ike. They were credited saving 16 lives during the mission.
