JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — Senior Airman Jacob Bartlemus, assigned to the Alaska Air National Guard’s 144th Airlift Squadron, inspects the plenum tube on his mask assembly for any rips or tears here April 4, 2019. This critical component provides ventilation to the lens and prevents fogging. Aircrew members from the Air Force’s 517th Airlift Squadron and the Alaska Air National Guard’s 144th Airlift Squadron were preparing for a takeoff and landing in a simulated chemically contested environment. Polar Force 19 was two-week exercise that gave squadrons an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities to forward deploy and deliver overwhelming combat airpower.
