JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska – A Taylorcraft F-19 rests where it crashed May 17, 2022, near Goose Bay Airport, Alaska. Good Samaritans, including Alaska Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Steven Borcherding, 176th Maintenance Squadron aerospace craftsman, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Kyle Lawrie, 3rd Maintenance Squadron aerospace craftsman, Alaska Army National Guard Spc. Zach Cherry, 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment warrant officer candidate, and Borcherding’s father, Steven Sr., helped evacuate the aircraft’s two occupants to safety before the incoming tide rose.
