Twenty-two Air Guardsmen with the 176th Wing competed in the wing's second annual duathlon here July 16 during drill for prizes and pride.

Sponsored by the Kulis Senior Enlisted Association, the duathlon was created in 2010 to help encourage a culture of fitness and esprit de corps within the wing. The 2011 event kicked off the "Kulis Family" Block Picnic, intended to be an annual wing get-together with co-workers and family.

The duathlon course was roughly a one-and-a-half-mile run, a five-mile bike ride, and then a one-mile run to finish. First place overall went to Capt. Shane Garling, a maintenance officer with the 176th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. His time was 36:10, for which he was awarded a $100 gift certificate and a t-shirt. Maj. Kimberly Riggs with the 176th Civil Engineer Squadron had the best women's overall time, with 41:03. She was awarded a $25 gift certificate and t-shirt.
